Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist retreat and study centre nestled in the hills of the Sunshine Coast hinterland in Queensland, Australia. Established in 1974, the Institute was one of the first Tibetan Buddhist centres in the Western World and remains one of the largest. The Institute is home to a Tibetan Lama, and a large community of monks, nuns, students, volunteers and guests.

Chenrezig Institute is a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to spend a few hours, days or weeks. Stroll along the bush paths, wander in the formal garden, enjoy a vegetarian meal in the café, drop in for a meditation class or teaching, or just sit and listen to the sounds of the beautiful tropical forest.

Our mission is: through wisdom and compassion to influence people's lives for the better.

We provide a range of Buddhist and secular programs through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed for the benefit of others. Chenrezig Institute is a registered charitable organisation. You can support our work by visiting the centre, or by making a donation.

Chenrezig Institute is affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT). Teachings at the Centre are based on the tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa as taught to us by our founder Lama Thubten Yeshe and Spiritual Director Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Lama Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) was the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a prominent teacher.
